Michelin Stars? My A*** LOL

My youngest daughter asked me tonight what a Michelin Star was. So I explained to her what it was. Then I thought I would show her the website of Michelin "starred" restaurants in Britain to illustrate the standard required of such acclaim. Well talk about the Emporer's new clothes!

Banana Parfait with a lime foam. Lime foam!!!!! Is that no a jelly that hasnae set? My mother wouldn't put that out on the table!!

A tartlet of poached quail's eggs, onion confit, smoked bacon and truffle with roast quail and a light quail jus. Mmm pretentiousness at its best LOL. A tartlet LOL My daughter saw the photo of the said "tartlet". Verdict = yuch gross

Who are these Michelin judges? You check out the Michelin starred restaurants and it is all a ridiculous food fashion. Coincidentally they all seem to serve quail, guinea fowl, John Dory and a variety of tropical fruit parfait.

When I worked in a pub once upon a time - one of the regulars used to frequently remind me that "enough was as good as a feast". How right he was. But for me that "enough" consisted of my Granny's home made potted hough and pickled beetroot, my Dad's home made ice-cream that I can still taste and smell to this day and has never been bettered, my Mum's date and walnut loaf, my children's grandad's Wiener Schnitzel and Vichy Carrots and my children's grannie's meatballs and raspberry pavlova.

So not for me the lure of the Michelin Stars - If anyone is ever in need of a meal in Highland Perthshire - I would strongly recommend the Aileen Chraggan. Food great and service very friendly. If you are in Devon - try the Hoops outside Bideford - food out of this world - setting spectacular - ask for the round table in the window - staff so friendly and such fun and not a foam of lime or a tartlet of quail to be seen!!!
