I am relieved to see by the vast amounts of fantastic blogs from all over the world on Stumble that there is still much of mankind that appreciates and can communicate the finer things in life.
I am currently undertaking a Health and Safety course run by IOSH and was shocked to hear that managers are encouraged to write procedures etc in "Sun" language as that was the level of literacy the British population could understand. I did not know what this "Sun" language was - so not one afraid of coming forwards - I asked. Oh right - the "Sun" referred to was the "Sun" newspaper. How soul destroying is that???
Not that it should really come as a surprise to me as a 20 year old at my work was very confused recently when a colleague complimented her on looking "studious" She shrieked " and what does that mean?"
Then when I used the word conducive in a conversation with another colleague who was equipped with a BSc, he burst out laughing and asked me if I had made that word up myself as he had never heard it before!
How often do I wish I was Maxine LOL
